Angela Stramel brings over two decades of expertise in veterinary medicine, rehabilitation, and equine care. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology from North Dakota State University in 2000 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in Texas in 2002. In 2006, she completed her Master of Physical Therapy at Texas Woman’s University and further specialized by attaining certification as a Manual Trigger Point Therapist in 2013.
Angela’s extensive career encompasses nearly 20 years in human medicine, where she has excelled in outpatient orthopedics, acute care, neurocritical care, ICU, cardiac critical care, inpatient rehabilitation, and the management of an orthopedic surgery center, alongside running her own physical therapy practice.
A published author in the esteemed "Physical Rehabilitation for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses," Angela’s contributions highlight her knowledge and authority in the field. Her comprehensive background spans large and small animal medicine, surgery, pain management, and rehabilitation. She has also participated on a global scale, serving as a co-instructor for an equine intramuscular dry needling lab in Finland for Fauna-Pharma.
Her extensive experience with equine training facilities has honed her expertise in equine performance and care. Having spent nearly 20 years in reining horse training facilities, she has gained a profound understanding of the performance horse industry, further enhancing her ability to provide specialized care tailored to the unique demands of performance horses.
To further her expertise and achievements, Angela is an accomplished endurance athlete, having qualified for and completed the Boston Marathon in 2023. Her dual experience as a physical therapist and endurance athlete provides her with a comprehensive understanding of the physical demands and recovery processes, which she skillfully integrates into her approach to horse care. This unique perspective allows her to apply principles of human athletic performance and rehabilitation to equine care, ensuring a holistic and informed approach to the health and performance of horses.
Through the integration of her advanced education and practical experience, Angela provides exceptional, customized care, ensuring optimal outcomes for both horses and their owners. Her commitment to excellence in equine health and performance positions her as a trusted leader in the field.
Douglas Stramel received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 1991. In 1994 he was accepted as an intern with the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center (DVSC). While at DVSC he gained extensive knowledge in advanced surgical techniques. Dr. Stramel is a member of American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association, International Veterinary Academy of Pain Medicine (IVAPM), International Association for the Study of Pain and the American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians.
From 2010 – 2013 he was Chair of ‘Advisory Council on Pain Management’ through IVAPM, which is dedicated to publishing pain management guidelines in the field of veterinary medicine. He was the Treasurer for IVAPM from 2013 – 2019, President-elect from 2019-2021 and President from 2021 – 2023. In the inaugural year of 2009, he received the credentials of Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner and is the first and only veterinarian to receive this credentialing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. By working with Zoetis and Elanco he has provided continuing education presentations and wet labs on the topics of anesthesia and pain management to practitioners in north Texas and Oklahoma. He is also a national speaker presenting at conferences such as AAHA, NAVC and CVC. He has also spoken internationally for Fauna-Pharma in Finland. Dr. Stramel is certified in Regenerative Cell Therapy, using adult derived stem cells to treat a wide variety of conditions as well as being certified with PennHIP.
He is certified in Western Medical Acupuncture through Colorado State University (now known as CuraCore) and has received training in Dry Needling Therapy for release of myofascial trigger points through Myopain Seminars. He has completed course work in canine rehabilitation through Northeastern Seminars and is a published author in “Physical Rehabilitation for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses.” He has participated in eight FDA clinical trials to help advance treatment in the field of pain management, including work on Galliprant, Solenisa and Librela.
Dr. Stramel runs and operates Advanced Care Veterinary Services, a specialty practice limited to pain management and rehabilitation, as well as pain management consultations to the veterinarians in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
